Thailand welcomes the world: Extended visa waiver

To boost tourism after the pandemic, the Thai government implemented a significant expansion of its visa waiver policy in July 2024. The list of eligible countries was expanded from 57 to 93 nations, including most Spanish-speaking countries.

If you are a citizen of the following countries, you do not need to apply for a visa in advance for tourism, business, or visits. Upon arrival in Thailand, you will receive a stamp in your passport that allows you to stay in the country for a specified period.

Main Spanish-speaking countries in the visa waiver program (partial list)

Country Length of stay
Spain 30 days
Argentina 30 days
Brazil 30 days
Chili 30 days
Mexico 30 days
Colombia 30 days
Peru 30 days
Uruguay 30 days
Ecuador 30 days
Panama 30 days
Cuba 30 days

It's crucial to know that the 60-day visa-free policy announced in 2024 is under review. In March 2025, Thai authorities announced plans to reduce the maximum stay from 60 to 30 days for citizens of 93 countries. While this measure hasn't been officially implemented yet, you should prepare for a maximum visa-free stay of 30 days and check the updated regulations just before your trip, as the situation is subject to change.

Alternatives for everyone: Visa on Arrival (VOA)

If your country isn't on the exemption list, don't worry. Thailand offers a Visa on Arrival (VoA) for citizens of 31 territories, which makes things much easier. Among the Spanish-speaking countries that benefit are Venezuela, Paraguay, Bolivia, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. This visa is obtained directly at the immigration counters of Thai international airports upon arrival.

Visa on Arrival Requirements:

Regardless of whether you are traveling without a visa or with a Visa on Arrival, there are several requirements that all travelers must meet:

  • Valid passport: Must have a minimum validity of 6 months and at least two blank pages.
  • Digital Boarding Pass (TDAC): Since May 2025, Thailand has replaced the old paper TM6 form with the Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). All travelers must complete this form online free of charge up to 72 hours before their flight. It is a mandatory procedure and facilitates your entry into the country.
  • Proofs: Always carry your departure flight itinerary from Thailand and your accommodation booking with you, as immigration officers may request them.
